stools - and one's 'aikia' whatevers...

Aikia does 'ship'...

Many of their designs are pleasant-modern-clean enough for a
budget, and,
for the cost, are
not unreasonably made.

I actually spent about five hours in easily a dozen calls
all over the Country, talking variously with
their corporate mid-level and upper-level decision makers to
be the Factory
'rep' and Assembly technition for the Las Vegas area.

Ultimately they could not figure out how to do so even
though it would have helped them out a great deal.

I did this is a fit of humor oweing to how I had got a
number of calls from kind, local, fairly well-to-do people,
who had bought Aikia things through the mail, and did not
know how to assemble them, and their plaintive calls to the
company allowed them to know they were on-their-own.

I allways loved 'House-Calls' for things, and was all
enthused over digging out my white Overalls and visored Cap
and so on...and keeping them 'out'.

I mentioned to the executives also that there were an
increasing number of People (which there are) who had
elected to avoid their
( 'assembly-needed') products for trepidation about the
assembly, in being told by the
Aikia company that no local Factory authorized technition
for
assembly was available here.

Anyway...

Just a funny story...

And entirely typical of modern 'business'.

Too...please know I am not the (same) 'Phil' as had endorsed
the 'stool'...(nor do I know anything whatever about the
stool, one way or the other!)

I bought VITAMIN. It's up and down adjustable and it's fine.

I don't have back problems (except when vacuuming--I hate housework)
but I've had two attacks of phlebitis and MD told me not to sit still
for too long. So I prepare the clay I'm going to use and place it at
a distance from the wheel, make a pot (or mess one up), get up and go
get another ball of clay. As I'm not in a hurry to make pots, this
works for me. I think this may be helpful for anyone who has back
trouble too.

(Many Ikea products require assembly. All their instructions are in
pictures. My all-thumbs spouse is grateful for this; better than
instructions that have been poorly translated from a foreign
language. No outside help is needed. Maybe, Phil, IKEA failed to hire
you because you misspelled their name :-) ?)

Hi Eleanor,

Even tho' the "instructions' are clear enough, many people
are not comfortable with the assembly.

Too...all our ( me and Ikea ) talk was on the phone...

I never wanted them to hire me, rather, merely to have a
co-operative arrangement in which they would feel satisfied
I should represent their fair interests as a 'Factory
Authorized' Assembly Tech. and product representative ( also
salesman I suppose) and for them to recommend me, and allow
me odds and
ends of their fasteners for those occasions when the 'kits'
might be short. And for me to have the personal-connections
for the supply side for customer service matters if
something comes in broken and so on, so a replacement could
be sent fast, in exchange, and so on...some 'juice' so the
customers get taken care of instead of being out in the
cold, on their own and so on, after their purchase.

This was four years ago or so.

Some of the execs really liked the idea and went to
bat...ultimately no one in IKEA could figure out 'how' to do
it...no one could invent the method of having the
arrangement. No one could accept my recommendations for a
mathod since no one wanted to assume any responsibility to
do so. No 'real' people in IKEA to 'make' a decision and
care for it. No 'problem-solving-skills' in essence.

Typical corporation...no one 'there'...
