Dear Milla Miller,

For you and the rest of the crowd.

Yvonne Hutchinson Cuff. "Ceramic Technology for Potters and Sculptors." =
A. C. Black. 1996. ISBN 0-8122-3071-X.

Read critically and notice the "Typos". If possible compare your reading =
of A. S. Watts' work mentioned in the bibliography to the interpretation =
of the Author and to the description of similar work cited by Singer and =
Singer, also mentioned in the bibliography.

Work done by Watts and other investigators of his era is crucial to a =
correct understanding of how various glazes behave. At that time (Circa =
1910-20) they used the term "Deformation Eutectic" do designate the way =
a mixture shaped as a cone would slump as it was heated. Somewhere =
during the passage of time someone forgot to use the full term and =
truncated it to "Eutectic". Misunderstandings which followed this =
influential event are part of Glaze history and mislead us to this day. =
A definition of "Eutectic" is to be found in Levin, E. M., Robbins, C. =
R., and McMurdie, H. F. "Phase Diagrams for Ceramists", p 6. American =
Ceramic Society, 4th Printing, 1979. ISBN 0-916094-04-9.=20

I hope that helps.

Best regards,

Ivor Lewis. Redhill, South Australia.
