Friends,

I am trying to find some oil spot recipes to test that will give good
results in reduction. Preferably something that will work well with other
glazes.

Thanks in advance..

Dear Tarek;

You might wish to check out John Britt's article in Ceramics Monthly
for more on this family of glazes. He asserts, and I have confirmed,
that oil spot glazes are a result of Fe2O3 reducing around C/9 to FeO,
while the escaping O makes big bubbles in thich glaze, then healing to
form the spot. Thus, if your kiln has locations where oxidation is
assured, you have a chance, otherwise the iron reduces along with the
pots, and no bubbles/blisters at high temp.

You will find The article and many other treats here:

due to the continuing generosity of CM.
