when living in dubai i was privy to many wonderful
stories from people living in foreign lands.

one of the air traffic controllers was living in uganda
at the time of the takeover of eidi ammin (sp)
he was forced to stay in the tower for three days, chained
to his desk. he claims the most awful thing was the
14 year old boy with a gun, that was more frightened than
he was. guarding my friend.

he told of a small village teacher, about 60 that
had been in country for 40 years.

the soldiers came and surrounded her school...
she walked outside with a umbrella, she smacked
the leader soldier in the head with the umbrella...
told him to `leave the children alone`..then smacked
his assistant with the umbrella on the back.
they cowered, and whined. she struck several others
and told them `to get the hell out of here`.
they left.
she gathered the children and walked them out of harms way.
no telling the power of an angry old female teacher.
they are the wonder of the world.
i have known many of them, and loved them.

Hi Mel,

I have seen similar things...

When I first lived here, my girlfriend was maybe 5 foot
three, and very easy going...
She was for a time, a Bartender, and had the knack of
calling on her talent for the 'Nanny' way of
dramatic scolding, if such were needed.

Big, drunk from before her shift,
getting-ready-to-be-violent construction Workers
and the like, starting to get unruly...she'd scold them like
a Nanny would scold a silly child, and they would grin and
cringe and get sheepish and
behave themselves.

Years later I knew another gal as became for a time a
Bartender, and she had the same knack...

Now too, a Man can acquire that knack, and I have done it a
few times myself...but it is maybe easier for a gal to
manage it...one false move and the whole game can get 'over'
very fast...takes perfect nerves...and Faith...
