In response to Wayne in Key West
"Do "we" feel it is cheating to mold our _own_ work for reproduction
in slipcast, or not, much as a photographer or painter will sell prints
of their own originals?
I don't think I will ever give up throwing, but
the temptation to knock out a dozen plates or bowls as easily as
throwing 3 or 4 is wery, wery tempting :>)"
If the the opinion of this particular lightweight holds any merit,
molding is just another method of creating your canvas or base
form. You still have to glaze each piece seperately. Depends on
how much of a purist you are. I acquired a number of used molds.
They are altered and carved beyond recognition. You can carve and
alter the mold with a Dremel tool. PLASTER SURGERY! sorry
I couldn't resist that one.
The aesthetic is what needs to be considered. Is it an original idea
or borrowed. Cheating ? You would have to have several identical
molds to knock-out a dozen as fast as you can throw. The mold
also needs to dry in between pourings or the plaster breaks down.
No time is saved on a medium sized simple form.
Let your imagination be your guide.
That's my 2senses
