Hi Pat,
Yes, I throw horses one piece at a time. There was
a rash of horse building going on at the community
college. Few survivors.
Sometime after having a death defying tumble that
put me in a semi-comatose state for two days I
thought I'ld try a different approach to horsemanship.
If anyone else has done this before I don't know of it.
I live a vaccuum. (cozy but with killer dust bunnies)
Throwing horses
a modular approach
-start with a to-scale drawing
-throw the body form - a cylinder closed at the top
-throw four legs - long thing cylinders
-alter while still attached to bat (they're wobbly)
-throw the neck - cylinder tapering to the top
-alter while attached to bat
-throw the head
trim & attach in this order when not quite leather hard:
-head to neck
-neck to body
set in a big chuck or foam to rest
-trim and attach legs
set the feet on sand and occasionally lift to release
lateral tension on the legs during drying process
suspend or don't suspend
depending upon how solidly it's built.
I can't guarantee this will work for anyone else
but this method has worked for me.
As Always, Kathie
from the peat bogs of Glen Ellyn where
there are no bag pipes to be heard.
