A Question for the Gurus,
Does anybody know what eckalite is? I'm assuming it is
an Aussie china clay. If so, what is it comparable to in US
obtainables, grolleg?
Thank you all, Kathie W

Hi Kathie W,
Eckalite is an Australian China clay.
It is the most pure insitu weathered kaolin in Australia, being
hydrothermally weathered. It is mined in the Southern part of
Australia, in central Victoria.
There are various grades. Eckafine, Eckaglass, Eckalite is just one of
them, it is the purest.
Eckalite 1 has the following analysis;
SiO2 46%
Al2O3 38%
Fe2O3 0.4%
MgO 0.01%
CaO 0.03%
KNa2O 0.16%
TiO2 0.07%
LOI 14%
How does that compare?
regards
Steve Harrison

Steve H:
The analysis you cited for Eckalite says it is very similar
to N.A.'s Tile #6 clay and EPK clay. main difference is NA clays have TiO2
that Ecka doesn't (1.4% for #6 and 0.3% for EPK) and slightly different
iron oxide content (0.3% for #6 and 0.7% for EPK).
but otherwise, either Tile #6 or EPK can readily sub for Eckalite.
til later. Peace. Tom B.
