help with firing schedule

I'm trying to figure out good firing schedules (bisque to C 06, fire to C=
6) for my electric kiln. I have a kiln controller with 8 segments which =
is a new world to me having been out of clay for a few years. I am having=
trouble understanding ramp rates and their coresponding temperature incr=
eases. How much power should I use and what temps? Just a good starting p=
oint would be helpful. =20

Hi Paul,

You don't say what type of controller you're using. My Bartlett came
with a pretty
good manual that showed sample firing schedules. It also has a good set of
preprogrammed firing tables. If you don't have a manual for your controller,
maybe you can call the manufacturer and get one.

"Mastering Cone 6 Glazes," by Ron Roy and John Hesselberth, has a couple of
good pages on firing rates. If you're working at Cone 6, you probably want
their book in your library!

I have a vague recollection that one of the magazines had a very good
article on
firing with electronic controllers about a year ago, but I can't find the issue
or even recall for sure which magazine. Maybe someone else on the list will
remember??
