"O Lord, O God, what a wonderful world you have made out of wet
mud, and what beautiful men and woman. We thank you for all the
beauty of this earth"

Ashanti prayer from Ghana
quoted in Heart of Prayer by Anthony Gittins, Collins 1985

Sincerely

Janet Kaiser ... 1. Has a true and plausible reason been given
for all those outages yet or is a USA-Canadian blame war about to
get out of control? I think the worst off were those stuck
underground, in lifts/elevators and up in the air... Did you see
those folk stuck up on a giant roller coaster? We have outages
all the time, which is why we have a multi-fuel household.
Electric, gas, oil lamps, candles, gas camping kit and open fire
with stack of wood and barrel of coal to burn. A couple of holy
wells for drinking water nearby, a whole ocean in front of the
house for toilet flushing and a butt full of rain water for
plants. A 10 day fast would do 99% of the civilised world a lot
of good. Longer than that without renewed food supplies and The
End is pretty close anyway. Maybe just enough time to drink the
cellar dry and be oblivious when oblivion strikes?

2. I have not been able to use shears, scissors, clippers or any
other cutting device since developing RA. The "alternative"
arthritis scissors I have tried so far are all tedious and
believe it or not they are RIGHT too! After X years of being
right handed, becoming a lefty is a trial. Taking that pressing
together of the blades action into account means scissors will
always be left or right (not both) but you would think that it
would have been possible to design and create a type of cutting
implement that would do both by now, wouldn't you? Other tasks
and tools which must make life difficult for left handed folk
include opening doors (handles wrong side of the door and turn
wrong way), can openers, pen and calligraphic nibs, pliers, wire
cutters and even the convention of reading/writing left to right.
I know two lefties who write upside down.

3. My cousin in New Zealand accelerates slightly whilst breaking
a little at the same time, so he keeps the same momentum and
distance from the car in front, but gives the appearance of
breaking to the tail-gater. Works very well too, even if it is
considered an unsafe driving technique. Raising the middle or
middle and index fingers works quite well too... Only recommended
in civilised countries where guns have to be kept under lock and
key and unloaded when out on a public highway...
