Paul B,
The bad news is that it ain't gonna work well. Give or throw it away, or
change to cone 6 firing.
Get yourself some cone 10/11 clay and make the highfire stuff out of
that. Your time is valuable, and clay is (dirt) cheap.
Best wishes,

Hello,
i have access to a lot of cone 6 porcelain that i want to fire to cone 11.
Some of it is a pre-mixed body still in the powder form in a large trash
can, and some is wet and being slaked down in another large can. I want to
turn it into something more workable than porcelain and raise the temp by
adding dry ingredients to it using a clay mixer. I know of one person who
did this by adding ball clay. I was wondering if anyone else has done this
and has some advice. I was also considering adding fire clay because i don't
care if it is still true porcelain when i am done - i just want to make use
of the stuff which has been sitting around in a friends studio for a
decade -- and i want something easier to throw with and less cracking. any
advice? thanks,

You can add around 20 to 30% of some kind of fireclay or stoneware clay
like Goldart or hawthorn bond or whatever is cheaper locally. It is best
to test different amounts, and clays. Most cone 6 porcelains have around
40 to 50% flux; you need to get that percentage down to 25% for cone 11.
