clayfolk in virginia area?

Hello all,

I'll be performing in a play near Winchester, Virginia from mid-september through early November. The play is a big yawn, but I'm excited to be back in Virginia again and am looking for somewhere to pot, studios to visit, classes, workshops, or maybe even a day-time apprenticeship once the show opens. Any one know of anything interesting or opportunities in the area?

Lesley: There are a number of people whose work is worth seeing in the
northern Va. area. Start with Dan Finnegan in Fredericksburg. Dan has a shop
and studio in downtown Fredericksburg. Terrific potter, great guy, very nice
work. He's also singlehandedly founded an arts center there in
Fredericksburg in an old plumbing warehouse. Studios and classrooms,
especially pottery classrooms, where you'll find classes and perhaps open
studio time.
Dan is teaching this fall at Penland, so I'm not sure when he's going to be
around, but if he's not there he has good people working for him who can
help you.
Also in the area - in Gapland, near Frederick, Md. - is Bill Van Gilder.
Bill's an excellent potter and has a nice big showroom at his rural studio,
where he also has a wood kiln. He also teaches at the Art League in
Alexandria. The Art League has pottery classes all week long, day and night,
and open studio time as well at their big studio facility. It's a bit of a
ride from Winchester, but you at least ought to get up there and see it. A
number of good potters also have shops in the Art League's Torpedo Factory,
in downtown Alexandria, including Kyoko Hull and John Thies and a number of
others.
That's a start for you.

Only problem is they have no truck to deliver clay anymore :>( and now the
choices are paying (more) for delivery from Campbell in Richmond ( $30 that I
paid Pine Ridge for 1000lb versus $50 that I was told yesterday to ship with a
truck from Richmond to the D.C. area). Other options.....for not much more you
can get clay directly from Highwater in Ashville....so , Jonathan, not sure
we are getting quite the same service.
also I called there on Monday for a Kiln price, and here it is Thursday night
and no response....Are you out there ROB from the newly named "creative clay
studios"???

Yep. What Anji said, too. But I thought that Pine Ridge had closed down. No?
