jepson wheels

I am currently looking to purchase a wheel, since my
Brent is borrowed. I was leaning towards the Pacifica
GT800, but I stumbled across the Jepson. I love how it
is set up with all the buckets and the area for tool
storage. It looks wonderful, and I got pretty excited
about it. However the site does not say how much power
the wheel has and how much centering capacity it has.
My husband likes to throw obscenely large things and I
want a high power wheel.

How happy are people with the wheel. Did anyone from
Canada purchase one recently. I looked in the archives
and there is a very old post but there was no info
about the pricing. Just that it was expensive.

The Jepson really looks way too good to be true. I
love the thing, but how does it preform?

Diana
Steve Jepson made an ideal potters wheel. I have one and love it. It is set
up so that I can use Randall plaster bats on it. That is a real plus for me. It
has plenty of power for anything.
The downside is that Steven Quit making them, so you will have no support if
it quits working. You can however repair it yourself. The motor and controls
are easily gotten.
If the price is good, buy it.

Hi,
I have one and it is plenty powerful. I never feel a lack of torque.
I love it too but I worry about it.

I think that Jepson has quit making them . He had a lot of personal
problems and said he couldn't get parts etc. so I think he gave up
on it. Last time I looked the web site was still up though.

I am going to call him as I need to lay in a few spare parts. Hope I
can get them.

Jepson uses the Randall system of removable heads with a Morse taper
on the top of the shaft and matching tapers in the heads. These lock
together by friction if clean and in good shape.
The Morse taper on the shaft is getting loose on mine and I was
having slippage. I want to stock a spare shaft and bearing assembly
as I fear this may go in a few years.

I installed a pin with matching slots on the heads at the bottom of
the taper, like the Stuart wheels have, to stop the slippage. The
taper still holds against upward pulls. I use a few light upward
taps of a 4 pound lump of lead to get the wheel head off.

I have wished that the plaster bats had been keyed some how as they
get loose and turn sometimes and you have to put thick slip
underneath to hold them.

Also the wheel is getting very noisy and I will have to investigate
what is causing it.

Fred

Thanks for the reply Fredrick. I am sorry to hear you
are having so many problems with your wheel.

I would not spend a fortune to have one sent to Canada
if I could not get replacement parts for it. I want a
wheel that I can depend on for many, many years.

His site is up and running. I sent an email, but have
not heard back from them as of yet.

I think I'll go with the Pacifica GT800. It costs
$1800 to get one here in Alberta Canada...

Good luck with your wheel. I hope you can get into
proper working order.
