I use a Bluebird de-airing studio pug mill. It is mostly used to reclaim
clay in short order. Even though I pug the clay I still wedge the pug of
clay before I throw. If you are mixing clay in large batches to a
consistency for the pug mill it will save you wedging all of the mix by
hand. But again, if your clay has been sitting for a while or even right out
of the box, I believe the clay is more consistent, manageable if you wedge
before throwing. I am 53 also and I don't believe twin auger or single makes
a whole lot of difference. I am still going to wedge the clay before I
throw.
