The attempt to make oxidation fired pieces look like reduction
made me think about early "maiolica" in Persia (about the 9th century).
The lead-tin glaze they used
with pigments painted on top
was their attempt to simulate porcelain and
led to an entirely new glaze tradition
that spread all over the world.
