Howdy all (and Arnold),

Well, I'm stumped. As you may recall, I have been
learning tons about electric kiln maintenance. My
teacher and I changed out all six of her elements in
her Paragon TNF 24-3 with a DTC 600C controller. The
kiln is wired (at factory) for cone 10. 51 amps and
220 volts. We didn't use the old connectors.

Teacher fired an empty kiln to bake the new elements
and the controller showed Error 1, which is too slow
temp increase. That is the same identical problem we=20
had before all the elements were replaced. Hmm!

We got out the trusty Paragon book and went to trouble
shooting. Got us a 12v battery, ohm meter, and some
test leads. I checked the controller board, no problem.
We checked ohms (again) on all the installed elements,
just as Euclid specked them. Disconnected board side=20
of the relay and hooked it up to the battery, no prob.
Both sets of connections checked out okay. Sooooooooo

I have no idea what the problem is. As we speak, it
is firing off at around 1900F. She is already seeing
a lengthened firing time by about 1.5 hours. The last
time it gave the error one message, it shut off at
at just under 2100F.

The only thing I can see that is uh-oh is that I have
220 volts written down, but teacher said the electric
dude who came out told her she had 248 volts at the=20
breaker box and that everything was okay. So, 220,
240, difference? Kick myself? Kick teacher?

Oh, and if you know Tony the Paragon kiln guy in Texas,
don't tell him 'cause he's going to give us a licking
if he finds out. hehe

I spoke to Elizabeth, the teacher who uses the kiln in question. The
kiln was not a standard Paragon TnF-24-3. Rather, it is rated to 51 amps
instead of the standard 45 amps. It was ordered that way from the
factory. It requires special elements rather than the standard ones.
