the kid at the table

When I was a small child we would visit Grandma's house on weekends. It
was always fun, my mother was from a family with 12 children so we had lots
of cousins to play with. At night all of the adults would sit around the
table and talk while us kids were suppose to go to sleep on the floor...
well all of the other kids slept, but I have alway had problems with
sleeping while there was something interesting going on. So many times I
was the kid at the table with the adults until I finally nodded off. While
sitting at the table I never made a peep, afraid that they would realise
that I was there and send me off to bed where I'd spend an hour stareing at
the ceiling trying to sleep.

About 5 years ago my husband who knew that I had always wanted to make
pottery told me he was going to buy me a kiln for Christmas but wanted to
make sure it was one that I wanted so he let me pick it out. I picked out
a Skutt KM 1027 and was so thrilled the day we went to pick it up. I found
Clayart at about the same time and once again I was the little kid at the
table, eyes wide open and absorbing everything that I could. I had never
had a pottery class and with Clayart, books, videos and magazines I have
picked up so much information. The best part tho is all of the information
here, there is a wealth of it in the Archives and I have spent many hours
there and this community feels like family.

I just wanted to say Thank You to all of you wonderful people who have
helped me grow and all of the knowledge that you share.

In west-central Minnesota where when my husband said it's raining out I had
to run outside, throw my arms in the air and dance in the first rain we
have had in 2 months.

I agree Cheryl! I have the kiln but I haven't made the first thing - yet! I
am reading all this info and using all the resources I can before I take the
plunge hoping it will be a successful adventure in the world of pottery but
even if it becomes a passing fancy (I am guilty of quite a few of those) I
have enjoyed the conversation here.
