Hi Glaze Gurus, especially Ron & John,
I had great success using Glossy Clear Liner on BMIX using a pretty protracted ramp fire mode as follows:
200 to 250F
400 to 1000 F
180 to 1150F
300 to 1894F
108 to 2190F - 10 min. soak
350 to 2090 - 25 minute soak
350 - 1950F
150 to 1100F
Eager to shorten my firing time, and having read comments on Clayart about faster cooling working for more mottled/glossy looks, and having discovered belatedly the firing schedule in MC6 Glazes, I tried the following schedule on Cone 4-6 WMP clay that I transported from Clay Art Center this summer:
200 to 212F
500 to 2000F
150 to 2196F with 20 minute hold
400 to 1900F
150 to 1500F.
The witness cones were bent to about 5 1/2. All my glazes came out the same as before, except the Glossy Clear Liner which crazed. A small test piece fired on the old schedule had not crazed.
My question is, what part of the new firing schedule is the likely culprit? What should I change, and what can I safely (if that's not an oxymoron) leave as is?
Thanks for any thoughts.
Joan in Colorado where the weather is heavenly, allowing me to pot with the studio door wide open and tempting me out on bike rides and hikes.
