8. Horsepower ratings are, if not bogus, at least subject to
interpretation. Some are rated at constant load (what the motor can
carry for hours without overheating), others at peak load (what it can
carry for short bursts). Take a look at the 1/3 hp motor under a Brent
ie and the one under a Thomas Stuart Classic. There's got to be a
reason for the difference in motor size (admittedly, design is a big
piece of it) given the same rating.
I have a pacifica and I love it,, because its what I've grown to love..
When I bought it I bought based on advertised horsepower,, when I got it and
looked at the motor, magic marker had been used to black out the horsepower
listed on the motor label. I contacted the company and was told that
gearing it down doubled the horsepower. I then asked a large local motor
repair shop if that was possible, they told me it was a bunch of hooey,,
that the motor hp is motor hp,, gearing will change the torque / not the
HP..
That said,, I love my pacifica and would recommend them. Just be sure to
compare apples to apples, and HP to HP..
