Howdy folks,

Well it's time to thank all those who participated in the "raku NON TONGS"
trial. Some of you sent them back, some of you bought them, and I can't
find a couple of you. Whats up?

It's very late and it's been a long day at the kilns, so I'm not going to
go into detail tonight, but in the tomarrow I'll get together with Judy,
(the other, perhaps best, half of this operation) and figure out just who
is missing in action. I think there are two or three of you guys I can't
get a hold of through E-mail or snail mail. So if you see this please
contact us at b4thewheel@bendnet.com and let us know if you are sending
the "Non Tongs" back, or sending a check. Returned questionaires are
appreciated too, either way!!

Again, thanks so much to everyone. It has been very educational and fun
for us. We learned a lot, will be making some desighn changes because of
the imformation you guys provided with your filled out quetionaires.

Look forward to hearing from you stragglers.

Bye for now,

My raku class was one of the "testers of the raku non-tongs. The
tongs are designed specifically for removing bottle/vase forms with
narrow neck and flaring lip from a top loading kiln. We used a
fiber/metal mesh kiln that is lifted off a lower wall of IFB. Given
the choice, my students opted for the traditional raku tongs over the
non-tongs - but I don't think it was a fair test because we weren't
using the non-tongs in the manner they were intended to be used. It
came down to we simply didn't need them.
I do think they are well designed and would function very well in the
right situation.
