I have searched high and low and cannot find my January 2003 Ceramics
Monthly which has an article about Tom and Elaine Coleman and a glaze I want
to try. I recall it being namedYellow Crystaline Matt with Barium,Gerst
Borate etc. If anyone would post it, I be most appreciative.

Here is the original recipe by Tom Coleman. I have revised this by substituting Strontium for the Barium and I will also include Steven Hill's version without Barium and Gerstley Borate. By the way, these recipes work at ^6 electric.

Yellow Crystal Matte ^ 8-10 Reduction (Originial)

Custer Feldspar 37.00
Whiting 14.00
Barium Carbonate 13.00
EPK Kaolin 11.50
Gerstley Borate 6.00
Titanium Dioxide 14.00
Zinc Oxide .50
Lithium Carbonate 4.00
----------
100.00
ADD:
Yellow Iron Oxide 2

Revised no Barium

Custer Feldspar 37.00
Whiting 14.00
Strontium Carbonate 13.00
EPK Kaolin 11.50
Gerstley Borate 6.00
Titanium Dioxide 14.00
Zinc Oxide .50
Lithium Carbonate 4.00
-------------
100.00
ADD:
Yellow Iron Oxide 2

I have made this leaving out the Zinc Oxide to get a Satin feel. You can also leave out the Yellow Iron Oxide.

Steven Hill's version

SH Strontium Crystal Magic - 4/03 revision

Custer Feldspar 40
Whiting 15
Strontium Carbonate 11
Tile 6 Kaolin 13
3124 Frit 4
Lithium Carbonate 4
Titanium Dioxide 12
Bentonite 2
------

Donald if that is the glaze that I am thinking of you need to let it rest
for at least a day before you use it and be very careful as it is very
runny..Ilene in Conn
