On page 114 of Peter Lane's "Studio Ceramics" there's a
picture and reference to Franklyn Heisler's work with
stoneware "spreayed with salt solution, fired to cone 6."
Does anyone know about using a salt solution in this way in
something other than a pit firing? I'm assuming that the
cone 6 firing was not in an electric kiln because of the
potential for acidic fumes, but the reference doesn't make
that detail clear. What kind of surface results on the
pottery? Any more details or pointers to URL's/etc. will be
greatly appreciated.
