After twenty years of waiting, I finally have a lovely new kiln barn with a place for the gas kiln and the money to get one but propane prices have tripled. Is it going to cost me $200 to fire a load now? Are potters firing with propane having to radically raise prices to cover costs? I'm wondering if I should hold off on getting the gas kiln and keep testing more oxidation glazes? They say propane (currently $1.69/gallon here) is going to go up dramatically again. How are potters coping with this? (A resurgence of wood-fire?)

we are the clay, and thou our potter;

Wow!! A fellow WV potter just got it for $0.98 gallon. Sure glad they're
slow about raising prices here. Strangely the propane was cheaper by
setting up a commercial account. Also if you pay in advance for all the
propane you expect to use for the year in the summer they usual will sell
it for less. Your locked in for that price for the year which is good if
the price goes up, bad is the price drops. Be sure you price shop for the
best deal!
