My homework has given me these additional books by Rawson:

Art of Tantra (World of Art)
--------------------------------
From the publisher
In this comprehensive study of Tantric art, Philip Rawson invites us to
join a meditative and visual exploration of the self and the universe.
Originating in India in 600 AD and increasingly linked with recent trends of
Western art, Tantra is a metaphysical fusion of eroticism, mathematics, and
magic, a diffuse worldview in which the cult of ecstasy reigns. It is
through the astonishing collection of illustrations in the book--sixteenth
century engravings of the process of Creative Generation, reliefs of Hindu
goddesses made for worship, a Tibetan magician's costume made of human
bone--that Rawson makes accessible the mystical and fundamentally
undefinable world of Tantra. 169 illus., 25 in color.

"A book to have for beauty and interest, which may well be a guide to an
understanding of life." --Arts Review

The Art of Southeast Asia: Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Burma, Java,
and Bali (World of Art)----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------
From the ublisher
With a wealth of information about the history, traditions, and religious
beliefs of Southeast Asia, Philip Rawson throughly and authoritatively
surveys a vast array of works of art and crafts from the region. Since
prehistoric times, the countries of Southeast Asia have created a unique
melange of indigenous art and the art of neighboring India and China. From
the bronze tombs of the Dong-son people in 500 BC, to the mystical, dramatic
form of Indonesia puppetry in current day Java and Bali, from architectural
wonders such as Borobudur, to a host of pagodas, shrines, and temples,
Rawson explores a medley of Southeast Asian art. He offers an astonishing
array of treasures and elucidates a culture in which there are no artistic
boundaries. 251 illus., 32 in color
"Handsome and comprehensive study." --Art and Architecture

Sculpture
----------
From the Publisher
Philip Rawson, a distinguished academic and author, practiced as a sculptor
all of his life. Sculpture, his final book, completes the trilogy begun with
his classic works, Drawing and Ceramics. As in those earlier volumes, Rawson
provides a clear, factual description of the underlying principles and
structural techniques of the art. Although Rawson discusses sculptures from
many places and periods - including Africa, Asia, Greece, Medieval and
Renaissance Europe, and twentieth-century Europe and America - Sculpture is
not a history as such. Rather, it is an original analysis of sculpture as a
fundamental and integral form of human "language" capable of conveying a
variety of different insights, offering a wealth of cultural and symbolic
meaning. In the course of this analysis, Sculpture explores the full range
of expressive techniques available to the sculptor today. Rawson's intent is
to reveal possible modes of sculptural thought for practitioners and to
enable the nonexpert to better understand and appreciate the emotional and
intellectual content of any work.

Thanks George,

Ivor brought to my attention that I should explain that the Ceramcis
book is about design and aesthetics and I would also add philosophy.
It is my favorite book on ceramic aesthetic, I think more readily
understandable and more universally applicable than Yanagi's Unknown
Craftsman. I prefer Leach's book on Hamada over Yanagi's book.
