strange pain in wrist

Let me say first misdiagnosis or inadequate, incomplete diagnosis DO
HAPPEN, even to nice people.

Someone wrote of ulnar nerve involvement, and of thoracic outlet compression
which should be tested for. HOWEVER there also is the disintegration of the
carpal metacarpal joint--which, in my experience causes a sharp fierce pain
from the "drumstick" part of the thumb, the part that is hardest to get kid
or suede gloves over, to where one's watchband would sit. In my case the
pain has been sharpest when I lean on that "drumstick" as when pressing
clay down to make a plate.

In November I am having surgery for it--BUT this is about 6 years since it
manifested itself. At the beginning (on both hands) the joint damage was
really too small to show up on x-ray.

AND PLEASE: When you say "doctor" you ARE talking about a hand
specialist,or a neurologist, right?
