the little buggers and the purple doo

Beautiful week in western NY except for the billions
of lady bugs, elder beetles and now the crackles are
flocking. My customers run to the door to avoid
getting bombed by the purple doo! The birds probably
go to Tony's vineyard, fill up on lady bugs with a
chardonnay chaser. The bugs like hanging out at the
woodkiln, but a raku firing clears them out like a
yard fogger.

Mike, here in San Antonio on our beautiful Riverwalk the "crackles" or as I
thought them to be "grackles" flourish like mad! In order to keep them from
hanging out in the trees and bombing the tourist as they take in our beautiful
river or sit and drink margaritas in a sidewalk cafe there are desperate
measures that are taken. They used to fire blanks into the air to disperse them but
then that mostly scared the crap out of them anyways (literally) which defeated
the purpose and scared the tourists too!
