grog in stoneware

updated fri 24 oct 03

Love groggy stoneware - I use a stoneware body with 26% grog (I have NO
fingerprints), when I recycle and add dry clay (a different claybody that I have
several 50lb. bags of) I add several scoops of medium grog. Don't know why but
I love craggy clay, love the fired look. For mugs and more delicate work I
use porcelain. So . . . how much is too much? When I have to put bandaids on
my hands after throwing!!

Yeah, but you can strap your hands with that
medical adhesive tape...takes a few hours of
throwing to wear through it down to your skin!

(Sometimes I throw with my handbuilding clay -
30% grog.)

You know...

If you people would throw with your feet, you wouldn't
be having this problem. =20

Geeze, you're podiatrists, you should know this.

This is only a problem if you make your wheel turn too fast (not a
problem on a low momentum kick or hand wheel.)

Take a look here:

The Shigaraki clay I use has white feldspathic stones in it, larger than any
grog you are going to find. You have to trim soft or else the kana just
jumps. Doesn't tear up my hands. Keeps them very smooth, actually.
