internet archives: the wayback machine

Janet Kaiser on fri 24 oct 03

I think you will find that those archived pages go back more than
two-three years, Helen. Last time I looked, my very first CoA
site from 1998 was there in all its glory and as far as I am
personally concerned, I dearly wish it did not! OK it may be of
some sort of historical interest someday, but my early groping
around was pitiful... Visually and technically. Not that it is
ever going to win any prizes these days, but it has improved! And
unlike early pots which are simply dreadful (but you kinda like
anyway, because they have been part of the family for so long)
once a web site is out of sight it is definitely out of mind --
like notes or sketches which were binned long ago.

But unlike long forgotten groping attempts in other spheres and
media, the internet comes back to haunt you in ways one never,
ever envisioned, dreamed of or had nightmares about... Truly! And
it can be even more embarrassing than those atrocious photos of
bell-bottom trousers and kipper ties... Something I never dreamed
would be possible!

Sincerely

Janet Kaiser -- just finishing off the latest version of a
tourist information site for Criccieth... Squint-eyed after
entering times for timetables...
