I think it might be something like:

#5 Ball Clay 60
EPK 20
Feldspar 20

with maybe a couple percent talc.
That #5 ball clay is actually pretty amazing stuff, it looks
like kaolin in the raw state yet it has much higher plasticity.

i took a 30 gallon trash can of b-mix reclaim that was sitting around for
months, dumped the whole thing in my clay mixer and started adding fireclay,
goldart and ball clay until it got close to pugging consistency. Put plenty
of grog and just a bit of feldspar as well. About a month later i ended up
with several hundred pounds of the best throwing clay i\'ve used. All the
plasticity of b-mix but with a tooth that is more to my liking. I don\'t know
if i would make casseroles with it, but i guarantee i won\'t get the kind of
cracking i did with b-mix.
so i call it a-mix and unless i can at least venture a guess as to what goes
into b-mix, all my nice pots will turn into pumpkins when i run out of this
concoction. I am sure some of the clay experts out there are rolling their
eyes but hey, i got 30 gallons of re-claim for free and wanted to make
something other than a dried out lake bed with it. So if anyone out there
could kindly even give a hint as to what they think b-mix is made of, i
would be most thankful to hear it. I hope the nice man from Laguna who posts
on the this list doesn\'t get mad at me for asking this question, i just want
to make some more of this stuff when i run out. Plus i have no plans of
driving Laguna out of business. thanks,
Paul B
