I have used a digital gram scale for years. I can make all my glazes and
slips ( 10 gallon batches ) in a very short morning, including sieving,
what a difference over the 2600 gram ohaus tripple beamer! I got my
original scale from Twin Cities scales in Minneapolis for $250.00, more
than twelve years ago. I recently (last year) purchased another for
$116.00 on ebay. Go to ebay's main category page and click on
laboratory equipment under the business and industrial category. Type
in digital scales and you will see many useful scales of many sizes and
costs. Make sure it will at least weigh in grams. there was one made by
GE yesterday that was still at $49.00. There is a company called Escali
that makes a 25# lb/kg package weighing scale for about $90.00 that
looks like what I would buy if I was needing to replace what I now have
( nec3800 weightronic). These are what grocery stores were using to
weigh at the check out 15 years ago. It is able to weigh either lbs or
grams and is acurate to .2 grams. I would not use this scale for very
small batches or doing glaze tests, but for large quantity of glazes it
is a *damn joy! Robert Briscoe
