mold making tips and tricks

If anyone is working with the Pure and Simple bat mold system and is
having a problem removing the newly formed plaster bat from the plastic
mold, try this:

Spray the "KEY" or triangle drive lightly with PAM. Try and confine the
spray to the the raised portion of the key.
An alternative is to rub a little vaseline on the raised portion of the key.

Fill the plastic mold cavity to within 1/8 inch of the top, but no more.
The key, when pressed in, will raise the level of the plaster to the
top. Even 1/8" may be two close to the top, but it is a place to start.
The press the coated key into place. Work the key down so it fits flat
on the top surface of the mold. Put a wide flat weight on it, but not so
heavy as to flex the plastic key downward.

After the plaster has set, and you can feel the heat of hydration coming
from it, wait until it definately starts to cool.

Remove the key. It should come right out. If stuck, gently pry up with a
stiff flat tool about two inches wide.

Turn the bat mold over, and press straight down in the middle of the
mold. If this does not release the mold, allow to cool thoroughly until
the mold does not give off any heat. In a tub big enough (the household
bath tub works) to accomodate the bat mold, fill sufficiently with HOT
water so that when placed into the water the bat sits well down in the
hot water but the water DOES NOT flow over the top of the bat into the
plaster. Allow the mold to sit for a minute, then rmove from the water,
tun over on a flat surface, and press down in the center of the mold.
The bat should pop right out.

The purpose of the hot water trick is to expand the plastic to get it to
release the plaster.

Good luck.
