nceca -- anyone registered?

updated sat 1 nov 03

Susan Setley on wed 29 oct 03

I just called the Marriott in Indianapolis trying to get a room. First I
called the 877 number. They told me with great confidence that NCECA's rooms were
being handled by a special office and had me call the 317 number.

So I called the 317 number, and was transferred back to the registration desk.

So I told them what happened, and they said all they had during that time
span was "American Ceramics Society."

I was told it was "possible" that the NCECA conference wasn't even in the
computer, but for whatever reason, the preson couldn't give me a definitive
answer.

Has anyone made reservations yet at the Marriott??

Susan,

The "American Ceramics Society" sponsors NCECA...when I called yesterday to
make my reservation, I pointed out to the extremely pleasant and helpful
reservation agent that they were going to get A LOT of call for NCECA, and
that they should be aware of the difference in terminology...also, that
potters will call it "En-see-ka"...they took appropriate note and any
confusion should be cleared up.

Incidentally, UNLIKE last year, Marriott is NOT charging the full room rate
to your credit card at the time of the reservation...kudos to the ACerS
folks for choosing a convention center that uses normal, modern business
practices.

Huh?
Is this something I have missed in the last year or so?
ACERS publishes ads in ceramics monthly and NCECA gives them a booth .
If there is a more involved sponsorship its news to me.

I was stunned to find out just how much it would cost me to fly to
Indianapolis. I could travel to either coast more cheaply. I could get a hotel in NYC
for what I would have to pay for the conference.

Anyone know where it will be in 2005? :)

Susan, Try putting in Louisville, KY. See if you get anything cheaper.
There are a number of us driving to Indianapolis for NCECA and if the cost
of the flight is considerably less, you can fly in here the night before and
spend the night at my house. Then we will get you to NCECA! I know it
sounds strange but flights to Louisville are often a better price than other
places. Why, I don't know...maybe no one wants to come here. It is a very
nice city, really!

This is from the web page: http://www.nceca.net/
.

The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts is a professional
organization of individuals whose interests, talents, or careers are
primarily focused on the ceramic arts. It became an independent
organization in 1967 after several years of affiliation with the Ceramics
Education Council of the American Ceramic Society. NCECA is a nonprofit
educational organization under 501(c)(3).

Lois, I stand corrected. NCECA *USED TO BE* part and parcel of ACerS...they
are now more or less independent. 1967, according to their website.
