Hello, all. For those who helped me with advice on getting my Olympic kiln
up and running a couple of weeks ago, thanks again. I did my first ^10
firing yesterday, with a very, very loose pack of pots ... maybe half to
two-thirds of what should be a full load. Reached ^10 in just under eight
hours, using a pretty simple firing schedule recommended by Jeff Zamek in a
kiln workshop on outer Cape Cod on Monday. (Moderate reduction from the time
^06 goes down right through the end.) I've just opened the door and it's
still cooling a bit, but it looks generally wonderful. Especially nice are
the pots glazed with Ron Roy's Ol' Black Magic temmoku recipe, which I love
even though, as he cautioned in the original piece in CM, it's not a big
seller. Thanks, Ron, for sharing.
Also, the Phil Rogers basic ash glaze looks very nice, expecially in
combination with the OBM.
As to Mel's posting on censorship ... I'm still new to the list and don't
have the long history most of you do, but keeping what appear to be
purposely inflammatory and pointlessly hurtful messages off the list seems
to me a reasonable approach. The recent message regarding Marta's work just
seemed uncalled-for, though unfortunately typical of the source. So, for
what it's worth, Mel has my support.
