Even if I did not work in clay myself, I would be attracted
to Marta's work because of the way
that the surface and form unite and flow in such a
beautiful way. The firing, glaze , texture and overall
shape and form
of the pieces work together to create a unified whole .
The objects seem both organic and alive, and stonelike or
fossil like at the same time.
Aesthetically they attract and please me. I like to look at
them and hold them
As some one who does work in clay I am attracted to Marta's
work because of the above reasons ,
but also because , as I study those textures, I cannot
figure out exactly how she gets them ,
and I am someone who has a few tricks up my sleeve with
regard to handbuilding techniques.
So there is a bit of a mystery as well as an attraction.
As someone who has met Marta and seen her working, I have an
appreciation for her work because of the above reasons,
but also because her process is quite lovely and fluid to
watch and her hands in motion are artist's hands .
Just as I love watching an accomplished potter work at the
wheel, it is very enlightening and enjoyable
to watch Marta work. She also has a wonderful spirit about
her work as well as her working.
So those are three levels I on which I can and do admire
and respect her work.
