Hi Connie:

I throw with vinegar water about 1 T to a pint spray bottle. The spray bottle evenly distributes and controls the amount of water used in throwing.

I also wanted to throw out that I have been using the same supplier - due to location - for years and buying the same ^6 stoneware my only venture to new was moving into porcelain a year ago.

Trying a new supplier, after a relocation- I asked for the white stone. They gave me their mix that was comperable. That clay was definately not the same as my old!! Better!!! I realized as I threw my biggest vase yet with the first hump out of the bag, that I had been stuck in rut with the same old claybody that was preforming pretty much the same old way. The Old white stone was a very dry blend- and I already throw dry - this new white stone, is very wet, yet very plastic and felt soooooo smmmoooth.

So, you may want to try out a couple of different clay bodies -
Not all bodies are the same under the same name........... And as for suppliers.......That change was for the better as well.

Peace,
Pamela

I've gotten into the bad habit of using too much water when I throw and I'm
trying to get out of it, particularly because this new clay that I am using
(Blackjack Pepperjack) seems to get soggy really fast.

I'm getting really frustrated - I've tried trying to just use my fingertips
and not have so much contact with the clay, I've tried using slurry instead
of water, etc. but my hands just snag on the clay! I just got through
looking in the archives and saw one other thing to try - someone had said to
put vinegar in your throwing water, I'll head back out to the studio and try
that, but does anyone have any other tips for me to try?

thanks so much,

Connie
