I recently purchased 500 lbs. of Klamath Red clay body from Seattle
Pottery. It fires from 04-6. After bisque firing at 06, I noticed some
jagged black protuberances, and some dark craters. I went ahead and glazed
the pieces, and where there were black protuberances, they stuck thru the
glaze. Where there were craters, the glaze didn't cover. The company is
mixing up a new batch, and will send 500 lbs. replacement. I'm wondering
what this black stuff is, how to know it's there before using again, etc.
I'm afraid of the new batch having the same stuff in it. Help!
