Just curious if anyone has any experience with these pugmills. They are made
in Japan and look exactly like the Shimpo Add a Vac mills. I am trying to
make a decision about which small pugmill to purchase and this is one that
looks appropriate but I have not heard much about.
Any input regarding the pros and cons of Bluebird 440 SV, Shimpo Add a vac,
Venco 3" deairing or the Bailey Model A deairing would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks so much,

I'd avoid buying this pugmill. Think replacement parts. When Venco first
sold into this market there was a real problem with replacement parts.
They had to be air freighted from Australia.
I am quite biased in favor of the Bluebird model. It is American made
with off the shelf parts. This means that for most things you can go to
W.W. Grainger for them. And since Bluebird is an American company you
can call them if you need technical assistance. I once had to replace a
motor and they walked me through the wiring over the phone. Another
added advantage of this pugmill is that you can extrude with it.
I've had two Bluebirds. The first a studio model I purchased in 1979. I
sold it ten years ago and its still in operation. I bought my Powerstar
ten years ago and I've never done anything to it except use it.
Good luck,

Dan: Pottery Supply House is selling Frema wheels and slab rollers like poop
thru a goose. i've looked at them when there and they look well made. the
price seems to be right so I figure you'd get years of work outta them. I
have a Venco and it's been a work horse but then i didn't have much of a
choice back when i bought it.
Best,
Tony

Get the Bluebird. It is reliable, cheap and easy to repair if anything
does go wrong, and the folks that make 'em are the friendliest, most
helpful business I have ever dealt with. Proof that you don't have to
buy everything from China :>)
