i have had the same thermocouple attached to the same
pyrometer for almost 25 years. it is one of those heavy duty
models.
the tip of the thermo is coated with itc 100.
it reads very well. at least i know where the needle
is, in relation to cones. that comes with experience.
also have marked critical spots with a red felt marker.
it matters not what the reading is...it is how it relates
to cone drops over the years. those are the red marks.
they seem to be the same, firing after firing.
the oxyprobe has never been moved.
it too, reads just right.
in fact it is rather odd, we have had the same old
pyrometers hooked to the kilns at the farm. they
just sit there, outside, for 8 years now.
they work just fine. never touch them.
they do have a roof over them however.
cones, i use cones. everything else is just fluff.
i use them, cuzz i have them.
