How about using a ceramic chemistry program like INSIGHT
to add silica and alumina to existing cone 6 glazes while
maintaining their ratio for minimal impact on glaze appearance?

Hi Karin

You may want to try The Glaze Book Stephen Murfitt Krause Publications.

It has a ton of recepies from eartenware to high fire and provides quality pictures of test tile samples. I have two glazes in particular from this book that are successful and several more I'm getting around to.

Good Luck!

Peace,
Pamela

There is a wonderful cone 9 iron red oxidation glaze in the book that I
tested. It called for a percentage of HV Ball and Ak Ball which I couldn't
find any info about and I almost didn't test the glaze. Then on a whim I
decided to use OM4 ball in the amount that it called for with the HV and AK
and it worked out faboulously on Laguna's Big White clay body. I'm currently
testing and modifying other glazes in the book and with the exception of the
two and three part glazes which only seem to turn white (maybe I am mixing
them wrong) I have had nothing but success.

Hello all,

Chappell in his book says that in glazes you can substitute nearly
all ball clays without much difference; but he also says it is not
the same for clays.
