Depends on the language you have set for your keyboard and/or
what language your keyboard is! Yes, an ENGLISH keyboard has the
accent circumflex ^ above the numeral six (shift + 6). However, I
type with German as the allocated language/layout, so the ^ is
the furthest key on the top left next to the numeral one. It
functions like an accent graf or accute (i.e you type the accent
and then hit the letter). In principle one should be able to type
any letter with the ^ above. However that is not the case, which
is quite annoying for those of us who need an ^ above y, u, o, e,
a, etc. I have to use either the asci combinations of alt +
numbers for =E2, =EA, =F4 and =FB or import using the "symbols"
function which is permanently on my desktop...
The letter =FD is the nearest to a y with a "to bach" (or "little
roof" as we call it in Welsh) that we can get... Most
frustrating! In the "good old days" we only had to hit both
accents + a letter, to create a little roof over any letter we
needed... Once again proving that "progress" is not always
forwards!
And just because any symbol works on one's own screen, does not
mean the recipient is seeing the same thing. The quotation marks
some Clayarters use appear as "to the power of" two or three at
this end and I am sure the =A3 and =80 signs appear as something
else for many... Indeed the Euro sign is not even present in many
fonts...
Most symbols are in different places depending on the
language/keyboard used... For example, for an @ sign, I have to
hit the letter q whilst holding down ctrl and alt. Y and Z are
transposed, etc. etc.... It annoys my PC doctor to death...
Sincerely
Janet Kaiser -- just back from my great uncle's 100th Birthday
Bash to be told by my ISP it has deleted the oldest e-mails in my
in-box, because the 100 MB or 1000 posts allowed by their terms
and conditions had been exceeded... In point of fact I have over
2000 mails to go through all together!!!??? A mere 959 are
Clayart. However all will have to wait... My cousin is visiting
this weekend. We are setting up a personal promotion/presentation
to see if he can find a job as a gardener somewhere interesting
abroad... Anyone know of Botanical or Japanese Gardens looking
for workers?

>>1. How do you make the upside down carrot as a cone symbol?
>It's the 'caret' mark above the numeral 6 on most keyboards.
>Just hit the shift key and the 6 together.
