Susan Setley on fri 7 nov 03
Someone emailed me this morning that someone is emailing other people telling
people that
1) my name isn't Susan
and
2) I live in Kansas.
Somebody is a big fat liar. :)
My name is Susan; I don't leave in Kansas; and someone on this listserv
spends time trying to stir up trouble when he or she could be doing something far
more productive, creative, and positive.
Others who are not interested in stirring up trouble may recall that maybe
six weeks ago or so I talked about attending a workshop that turned out to be
given by someone who reads this listserv.
Then I talked about tools I bought as a result of that workshop, which was
NOT held in Kansas but at the studio where I work.
Take a look at my Epson page. The pictures aren't wonderful; they were taken
simply and quickly at home using a relatively inexpensive digital camera, but
they're there.
Take a look at #9 and #11, which were made using a piece of textured plastic
I purchased after attending that workshop. They did not use any textured
plastic at the workshop, but when I received their catalog, it looked intriguing. I
used it in two different ways on the two different pieces. The second piece
has a knob on top. I imitated the texture on the knob but built the piece from
slabs that were textured with their plastic.
I also used it on #9, but that piece was thrown, and rolling it on the
plastic as a closed cylinder didn't impart the texture as well as using a slab did.

I have another piece I'll be adding IF IT SURVIVES firing. I used the
demonstrators' techniques of making bricks of clay, letting it get past leather-hard
to cheese hard, and then pounding blocks thinner. I used strips, so there are
a LOTof joints, and it may not survive. Oh, I tell you what. I'll put it up
even if it breaks. Then at least the rational people here will have more
evidence.
On my Epson page, #1 - 3 are views of my first piece of horsehair Raku. That
piece was inspired by the very generous person from this listserv, whose name
I have lost track of, who sent horsehair to anyone who wanted it. I did a
second one. I'm not as happy with it, but I'm going to add it in a few days at the
encouragement of others who have seen it.
I really don't care what people call me here. Susan works, but I see no
difference between that and "ThirdRockFan," myself. It's just a name. However, I am
stating -- right now -- that whoever is emailing people and telling them that
I am not Susan and I live in Kansas -- is a FIRST-CLASS TROUBLE-MAKER, no
matter what other strengths that person may or may not have.
Ain't no way I'm leaving. I, too, know how to use filters.
I'm not talking about this but I will post when I add the 'strip bowl' to my
page, no matter what the outcome is for the thing. I'm not a brilliant potter,
but I think if you look at my page you will see I am working hard and
exploring a significant number of ideas. I'm not the most talented person in the
world but I keep plugging along, and I have a right to be here even if I claim my
name is Borbickle Swoop.
If you get more email of that type, you will know something about the sender
-- not me.

Susan,
If you are receiving harassing email, send me a copy. I can find
out who they are.
People need to chill.
