problem with duncan's concepts glaze

Hi all,

I have a problem with the Concepts not adhering every now and then. I do raku-fired sculpture, use this underglaze (it's one of those which flux without anything over it) all the time without problems, use Aardvark's Sonora White cone 10 clay. I do a cone 06 glaze firing over cone 04 bisque before rakuing. SOMETIMES the glaze just doesn't adhere in spots which is difficult to even see after the electric glaze firing, but after rakuing, I get lovely craters where the glaze pulls away, and reglazing and refiring will not fix it -- more just comes off. I thoroughly clean the bisqueware before glazing.

Has anyone else experienced this? Or does anyone have an explanation or solution to the problem? These are handbuilt pieces involving hours of glazing and this is driving me CRAZY!!!!!

thanks for any help,

Karen in Gualala

Karen,

Sometimes the slightest amount of skin oils will affect these glazes'
ability to adhere. Try washing with soap and water before each time you
handle your bisque.
