Well, Logan, sorry for being a tad disgruntled at your proposed
"solution", but as Belinda charges US$ for her services, I do not
think there would be a very representative poll at the end.
Indeed, just listing people will not be enough -- some sort of
correlation will have to take place so that numbers (or
percentages) are spit out at the end. Like (this is made up) of
the 3,021 currently subscribed to Clayart: 95% are situated in
the USA less than 0.01% in PRC (with listing of all the other
countries in between); 2 are one-eyed, 529 wear reading glasses;
40% male 48% female 2% don't know; 499 raku, 2,008 low-mid fire,
1,283 stoneware, 917 porcelain; 80% describe themselves as
hobby/second career/not full time, 19% are full-time, 1% do not
touch clay; 99% produce disfunctional and 1% functional work etc.
etc. (Hey, I am joking folks! :o)
However, you get the idea? I boggle at compiling a meaningful
list of country of origin / residency, sex and age, let alone all
the other variables which have been under discussion and
suggested. A tad overwhelming at the very thought of what sort of
database would have to be set up to number-crunch here!
Mel has already given an optimistic evaluation of how many would
actually answer even a simple set of questions and if people had
to pay to take part, that number would drop much further. Not to
mention asking for portraits... For some reason, many Clayarters
are really shy about showing their fizzgogs! I personally like to
encourage the idea that I am an ancient, two-horned,
tail-swishing, contrary, socialist Welsh Witch who enjoys a
punch-up at least once a week, so a photo would kind of dispel
the fragile persona I have spent many years projecting! grin>
Sincerely
Janet Kaiser -- Doing the maths: $10 from each Clayarter, of whom
there are approx. 3000... Hummm... Nice... It would be much more
than our current combined annual income... And $30,000 would
really put us on our feet... Why do for free what others have
apparently been encouraged to charge for? Funny old world....
