Does anyone know of a metal tool that will make a half round or quarter
round like shape on clay. Maybe the 'hole cutter' can be used for this
purpose ? have a few on order and will try those when they arrive...-
something needed to make a continuous half round line on clay. Any ideas?
I have split sawed some copper tube (brass is better) and they seem to work
with a modicum of success.

Hi Llewellyn,
Are you talking about Trimming a "half-round' line on the
Wheel?
Or are you talking about pierceing a half-round hole in the
wall of a Clay vessel?

Phil,
No visualize it more like adding a half round onto a surface and one long
continuous line like a rope cut in half and perfectly straight and even.

Hi Llewellyn,
Hmmmm....okay...
But...adding it to the surface of what?
Of something 'round' and on the Wheel? Something on to
which, or into which, a 'Half-Round' would be Trimmed? Or
something onto which extra material will be added (and
Trimmed to become the Moulding?) or?
Something straight (not round) and on the bench, on which
this Moulding is wanted?
What are you wanting to add it on to, or what is it you want
to make a Moulding on?
That would help me!
Curious!
Yours,
Phil

A good way to go is with a piece of plexiglas with a straight edge. Cut
half-rounds of circles in the edge. Use sandpaper gradually refining the
grit in the paper to the point where as you sand the plexiglas edge it
develops a very smooth surface. Then tilting the plexiglas at an angle,
drag it along th surface of the clay. The straight edge will carry away
some clay, where the half-circle does not. In time the clay will fill
the half round cutout, as you continue to repeat the drawing action of
the profile over the clay, You can make very long flat pieces this way
that can be cut into the desired lengths.

Hi Llewellyn,
Hmmmm...I'd be tempted just to extrude the shape you need
and adhere it to the Tile or Paver...
Or...
How are you making your Tiles ( or Pavers) - ?
If the Tile or Paver is narrow along the axis the 1/2 r'd
is...maybe just extrude the whole thing with the half-round
being integral?
