itc and aging alpine kiln(s)

I've read a number of posts since joining about the miracles of ITC.

This weekend I fired an old Alpine to Cone 9-10 and this time it had
REAL PROBLEMS getting to temperature. My questions are thus:
a) does the Alpine insulation (vermiculite and other stuff) age
over time, and become less effective?
b) will a coating of ITC take care of this?
c) Is there a way to test burner blower effectiveness (hitting a
consistent standard of cfm's). I'm also wondering if the blowers need
replacement.

I cut off and threw the old burner system away.. Im using high pressure
burners from Marc Ward.
I didnt want to be stuck in a firing and have no electric. I love my old
Alpine
