Gaye,
From what you describe, the monitor driver software has become corrupt or
else the system has forgotten which driver to use. Either way, the easiest
thing to do is to reinstall the monitor driver software.
For me, this is one of the most frustrating things that Windows does. I have
to set up computers for instructional use and, of course, the computers and
monitors are mix and match every time. As soon as Windows sees something
different, it goes into this "sorry, you can't change it" mode. You can't
even tell the system to use a generic high resolution driver. I hate it.
Reinstalling the driver software is the only thing that works for sure for
me.
Bruce "most frustrating, that is, except for the fact that someone at
Microsoft thinks that I keep every single thing that I write in the My
Documents folder even when I've just opened a document from another folder.
I hate it. I hate it. I hate it." Girrell
