You don't want to use anything that would
interfere with the absorbency of the
plaster. It's not as critical for press-
molding as for slip-casting, but why undo
one of the most useful traits of plaster
molds by using a greasy release agent?

To release the pattern from the plaster
when initally making the mold, I'd use
mold soap. Thereafter, you shoudn't need
a release, but if you do, just a light
dusting of dry clay should help.

I should have known the answer to that one yes as I have worked for a long
time on hand made plaster bats and once the clay is dry enough it comes
right off and the most natural way. :-) Since the plasticine in so oil
based maybe it was unneccesary to have used it in my original cast but I
felt I didn't want to have to pick out little bits of anything- I had no
previous experiences to tell me which was the correct way here.
