Ron what cone do you do your bisque? Lou

"If you have a kiln load of copper reds and some are red and some still
clear - you refire the clears in a bisque and they come out red - by giving
the ruby crystals a chance to form."

Hi Lou,

I have always bisque fired to cone 04 - same for cone 6, 8 and 10. The
books advise striking at a soft bisque - I assume that would be more like
06 but I think that applies more to low fired glazes.

There is some room for experiment in this area - which would work best for
your glaze - 08, 06, 04 - easy to do a glaze several times as well to see
what multiple strikes would do to your glaze.

If the crystals continue to grow or stay the same you have not fired high
enough to remelt them. If the crystals get smaller you know you have
started to remelt them and have exceeded the optimum crystal growing
temperature.
