Upcoming workshops (Jan.-Feb., 2004) at Callanwolde fine Arts Center in =
Atlanta:
Tom Coleman: Working with Porcelain (Jan. 17 & 18).
Recognized as one of America's foremost masters working in porcelain, =
Tom Coleman has spent over thirty years as a studio potter and teacher. =
His work has been featured in both "Ceramics Monthly" (Jan.'03) and =
"Clay Times" (Mar. '02), and he is the subject of the recently reissued =
book Mud Pie Dilemma. In this two day workkshop, Tom will demonstrate =
his techniques for throwing and altering decorative and functional =
forms. His presentation will also cover surface decoration, technical =
information (clay bodies, slips and glazes), marketing, photography for =
publication and competition, and philosophy. This workshop will be =
informative and inspirational for potters of all levels, regardless of =
their chosen clay.
Saturday and Sunday (10-5). Fee: $110 for both days. (Limited one-day =
registrations may be available after Jan. 12)
Debra Fritts: Form, Surface, and Color (Feb. 28 & 29)
Roswell (GA) artist Debra Fritts will demonstrate her methods for =
developing complex surfaces on figurative and functional handbuilt =
ceramic forms. In addition to showing advanced handbuilding techniques, =
topics covered will include found object impressions, mark making in wet =
clay, carving and applique, as well as the layering of color through the =
use of oxides, stains and underglazes. The presentation will include a =
slide show and discussions will explore the development of personal =
statements and the use of symbolism.
