china/oxymoron
i did my annual trip to a mall and looked at
high end dishes and flat ware.
time to get my annual education of pricing
before i have my holiday sale.
china?
mexico?
italy?
things made there, sold here. big prices, huge.
not junk. just not anything most of us would want.
cast teapots $160
cast casseroles $120
my all time favorite...a chicken cookie jar, cast, made
in mexico......$135
could not have cost more than .12 cents to make.
mugs $45
sets of dishes
$345 a place setting. but, then you can rebuy until 2020
many of these dishes are made in automated factories.
the cost of production is very low compared to the price.
dansk, denby, all the names.
sorta hand made things from italy. very decorative.
majaloca style.
average cost per piece $85
it all sells like hotcakes at the fireman's breakfast.
i gotta raise my prices.

Mel, in my own studies of manufacturing, marketing, and distribution, I
learned it is not uncommon at all for goods to leave the factory with a
1000% or better markup.
