I'm not kidding about the drat. I still adore
shino ...... it's my favorite..... to own..... to
work with..... to fire....... to fiddle with ......
but it does drive me crazy often..... so I'd
decided that, given my limited time in the
studio, I'd only glaze a few pots with shino
each time I manage to fill a kiln.... and those
would be my Mel shino which works pretty
reliably for me at this point. I WISH I could
conquer Hank's two shinos...... so of course I
still can't resist adding a couple more of his....
though mine NEVER look like Hank's and I
oughta quit trying. Drat again.
The rest
are blues, greens, black&white, and all my
gorgeous reds or Laguna's artificial salt
glaze. These glazes are not fool-proof
by a long
shot ( the salt is always different in each load;
no repeats) ...... some have tendencies to run
maybe, or my
reduction will be off ....... something...... but
generally they seem to react well as I gain
more experience firing them.... and they layer
well if that's my desire.
Now here comes Tony C. ..... entrapping me
once again ..... as he has for
years...... talking about "gold" shino..... and I
know EXACTLY what he means..... I've done
that....... or something did that to my shinos
several times .... not predictably, of course,
but it was there. And here I am..... creating a
new folder for Shino once again..... thinking
about my yellow/gray shino...... the shino with
red........ the peachy shino - not up to Liz's
standards but still nice .... Hank's shinos
which haven't looked
like Hank's but are still at least interesting (which
to me is a Great way for a glaze to be .........
Interesting.... better than being Beautiful; certainly
more exciting than Pretty; even leaves Elegant
it its glorious wake. ) Can't wait to crank up the shino
romance once again!!!............ sigh............

I'm on my third order
from Michigan ....... I swear I do believe I can
tell a noticeable difference, and I NEVER believe
in any of what I consider to me delusional=20
anecdotes about herbs etc (Don't mean to
offend, but I don't take offense when you tout
your beliefs ....... so really you need to be
bigger than to be offended by my small
statement ......) I'm still suspicious that I
might be operating under a delusion myself.....
so that my mind Makes me feel better. If so,
so what? Thanks for the tip.
